ETHICAL COMMITMENT, REPORTS AND PUBLICATIONS

PROJECTS

Since 2022, FXB USA has been filling a gap in climate education and addressing a critical need by providing young people around the world with the tools and resources to take action.

In parallel, FXB USA also serves as a resource and provides training for FXB teams, giving them the tools they need to build resilience to climate disruption in the vulnerable communities FXB works with.

Context

Worldwide, 59% of young people and young adults say they are very or extremely concerned about the consequences of climate change. However, only 53% of national educational programs make reference to climate change.

FXB Climate Advocates

The FXB Climate Advocates program fills a gap in climate education by giving young people the tools they need to take action against its causes.

In three phases, the aim is to raise awareness of climate solutions and action among young people around the world, encouraging them to channel their hopes and optimism into making concrete changes in their communities.

Learning: Participants follow an online program, in English and French, featuring interactive sessions on topics such as climate policy, climate science, lobbying, digital storytelling, health, renewable energy and sustainable consumption.

Connection: Participants benefit from the teachings of renowned experts, including Harvard, New York University, Project Drawdown and the Citizens' Climate Lobby. FXB Climate Advocates are also represented at major events, such as COP meetings.

Action: Participants receive expert coaching to initiate their own climate action projects. They are also trained to promote them at gatherings and conferences on climate change.

In addition, FXB USA trains team members in the countries where we operate, enabling them to integrate resilience and adaptation to the impacts of climate change into their activities. This approach aims to strengthen the ability of marginalized communities to cope with the environmental challenges that disproportionately affect them, by providing them with concrete tools to anticipate and mitigate these impacts.

THE FIRST FXB FOUNDATION IN THE USA

  • A PIONEERING COMMITMENT TO PEDIATRIC AND PERINATAL HIV CARE In 1997, a family care center dedicated to HIV, infectious diseases and immunological disorders was founded at the University of New Jersey by James Oleske and Mary Boland. In the early 1990s, the first FXB Foundation, founded and chaired by Albina du Boisrouvray, provided generous funding to enhance local clinical services and expand the center's expertise in the face of the burgeoning HIV pandemic. In recognition of this support, the facility was renamed the Centre François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) and launched the International Training Program (FXB-PFI) in its wake. This pioneering program was one of the first to train healthcare providers worldwide in the care of HIV-infected pregnant women, as well as infants and children affected by perinatal transmission. The FXB Foundation also launched the FXB Chair in Pediatric Allergy and Infectious Diseases, awarded to Dr. James Oleske. In 1996, a second Chair in Pediatric Community Nursing was created.
  • A PIONEERING UNIVERSITY CENTER The François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University was founded and endowed in 1993 by Albina du Boisrouvray, in partnership with its first director, Dr. Jonathan Mann. Dr. Mann, a pioneer in the fight against AIDS and an ardent defender of the link between health and human rights, shared Albina's vision of protecting the most vulnerable, especially children. The FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, the first academic center dedicated exclusively to the links between health and human rights, takes an interdisciplinary approach to promoting equity and dignity for populations oppressed by racism, poverty and stigmatization, both nationally and internationally. It brings together a broad network of academics, educators, elected officials, government agencies, NGOs and policy-makers to demonstrate the impact of human rights violations, particularly on children.
  • THE AEROSPACE FIELD: In 1989, the first FXB Foundation decided to finance the construction of a new aerospace and aeronautics building on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, where François-Xavier had studied engineering: the FXB Building. The FXB Building will house research laboratories, classrooms, offices, a conference room and a library, contributing to the development of knowledge and the training of future generations of professionals in the field. Located to the south-east of the FXB Building, the Wave Field is a memorial to François-Xavier Bagnoud and a true work of art. This earthen sculpture, representing a wave field, is transformed throughout the day by variations in light and the play of shadows. It was designed and created by Maya Lin, an artist renowned for her work on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama. Over the years, other initiatives have been undertaken, such as the creation of the FXB Flight Institute and the FXB Aerospace Prizes.
