Context
The Casa FXB (FXB House) in Montevideo, Uruguay, opened its doors in 1992 to combat growing poverty. Many children lived on the streets, in very dangerous neighbourhoods, eating leftovers of found food. As a result of stigma, discrimination, violence and sexual exploitation, these children were constantly exposed to HIV and STIs.
Concerned about the lack of opportunities for young people, FXB has set up an educational project for vulnerable children and adolescents that will enable them to find productive ways to cope with poverty, adopt a healthy lifestyle and build a life project.

At Casa FXB, young people benefited from psychological and emotional support, sex education, information on children's rights, education on the acquisition of personal skills necessary in everyday life, and vocational training. Thanks to the support of the FXB team, young people simultaneously developed their autonomy and their capacity for social integration.
This comprehensive approach allowed them to find productive ways to cope with the problems of poverty, adopt a healthy lifestyle and build a promising life project. The Casa FXB was for these young people a space of life where they were listened to, advised and everything was done to restore their dignity.
Following a long campaign launched by the founder and president of FXB, Albina du BoisrouvrayMany families of young people from the FXB Uruguay have managed to benefit from decent housing. FXB then initiated the development of agricultural activities aimed at improving the quality of life of these families, both at the economic level and at the level of access to proper nutrition.
In addition, FXB collaborated on a UNICEF initiative to include a new line in the national budget to provide financial support to families caring for orphans.
FXB withdrew from this project in December 2009. It is now run independently by a local association.
