FXB Foundation - The stained glass windows of the Chapelle de tous les Saints in the hamlet of Verbier (Valais, Switzerland)
A TRIBUTE TO RESCUE AND COURAGE
By donating these stained glass windows in 1988, the François-Xavier Bagnoud Foundation wanted to celebrate the ultimate act of charity: saving a life at the risk of one's own.
Based on a design by Cecilia Bozzoli, these stained glass windows illustrate mountain rescue. They were crafted in Jacques Simon's studio by Charles and Benoît Marcq, heirs to a four-century-old line of master glassmakers known for their work with Marc Chagall and Veira da Silva.
The work traces the history of alpine rescue, from the monks of Saint-Bernard de Menthon and their dogs rescuing lost travelers, to mountain guides equipped with stretchers, ropes and ice axes, to modern helicopter pilots equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. It embodies a tradition deeply rooted in the history of the Valais.
In 1989, the FXB Foundation also co-financed, with the Verbier parish, the purchase and installation of new organs for the village's main church.
