A SHARE AND MEMORY HERITAGE
The Moulin François-Xavier Bagnoud and the common oven of Heremence aim to preserve the heritage of the canton of origin of François-Xavier through the theme of bread, symbol of the sharing par excellence.
Heremence, a village on the side of the Dixence Valley, 1230 metres above sea level, combines traditional authenticity with the modernity of its latest constructions. The history of the mountain communities of Valais bears witness to the struggle for water, a source of life and energy. In the image of the bisses and the dams, the epic of the mills is the perfect illustration.
Remembering a people, the Moulin François-Xavier Bagnoud reminds us of a time when the inhabitants of this canton lived in autarcia, without any resources other than those painfully torn from the land.
"Does a mill fed by the water of our mountains not remind us of our basic food without which we could not live and which we all love? May this mill and this common oven remind us that each of us is entitled to his daily bread and that if man finally becomes reasonable, it should be possible to distribute and share throughout the world“.
