PALLIATIVE ACCOMPANY IN THE HEART OF HUMAN
Founded in 1992 on the initiative of Albina du Boisrouvray, this care and accompaniment structure was created to allow people at the end of their lives to stay at home, surrounded by their relatives.
« It was in Valais in 1988 that I met Sister Irene Seppey, nurse and director of the School of Nursing, as well as her friend psychologist, Annie-Muria Venetz. Both, like me, had just passed through particularly painful bees, one having lost his nephew, the other his son. Together, we joined forces and, as part of the Foundation bearing the name of my son, founded the FXB Centre in Sion, dedicated to the practice and development of palliative care at home. This project met the desire expressed by 70% of patients in a survey to be able to die at home rather than in hospital. » — Albina du Boisrouvray
From 1992 to 2009, CFXB provided home palliative care to anyone residing in central Valais, in an irreversible phase of illness, when curative medicine proved powerless. Its intervention is a global approach. It combines daily nursing care, psychological and practical support, both to the sick person and to those around him. Albina also wanted to alleviate the moral pain of the sick and their families and it was with this in mind that she wanted to set up mourning groups that are indispensable pillars of the action of the multidisciplinary team. 800 people were accompanied by the FXB Centre team.
On 1 January 2010, the CFXB definitively ceased operations. The entire team – its experience and the countless skills acquired over 18 years – has been integrated into the Medical and Palliative Care Skills Centre of the Valais Health Network.
