FXB Foundation - The FXB Hut in Panossière (Valais, Switzerland)

A REFUGE BETWEEN SKY AND ICE

As a tribute to François-Xavier Bagnoud's stopovers in this cherished place, the FXB Foundation financed the construction of this mountain hut, inaugurated in 1996, to replace the former refuge swept away by an avalanche in 1988.

Perched at an altitude of 2,641 meters at the foot of the Grand Combin, Cabane FXB overlooks the Corbassière glacier in the heart of the Valais Alps. From Fionnay in the Val de Bagnes, it's a three-hour walk to this eagle's nest in the Combins massif.

The work of architects Michel Perraudin and Philippe Vaudan, the hut is distinguished by its unique design: its seven rock-colored titanium-zinc panels are reminiscent of the facets of a quartz crystal. Combining tradition and modernity, it has a capacity of around 100 beds and incorporates technical innovations such as solar panels and high-performance sanitary installations.

Nearby, the Sentier de la Méditation (Meditation Trail) pays tribute to those who died in the massif, and ends on a promontory overlooked by a Christ by sculptor Louis Bruchez.
