Effectiveness of children's rights

Early childhood development, education and vocational training are key to escaping poverty, having a voice in one's community and accessing better opportunities for a dignified life.

Context

More than 260 million children and adolescents are not in school - almost a fifth of the world's population in this age group. What's more, more than half of all the world's children and adolescents do not have the minimum level of competence in reading and mathematics.

Over the past decade, major progress has been made in improving access to education and increasing enrolment rates at all levels, particularly for girls. Nevertheless, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic may jeopardize hard-won progress in improving the quality of education worldwide. Never in history have so many children been out of school at the same time; this has disrupted their learning and turned their lives upside down, particularly for the most vulnerable and marginalized children.

The reasons for the lack of quality education are due to the lack of properly trained teachers, poor school conditions and equity issues related to the opportunities offered to rural children. Achieving quality education is the foundation for improving people's lives and sustainable development. In addition to improving their quality of life, access to inclusive and equitable education can help equip local populations with the tools they need to develop innovative solutions to the world's biggest problems.

FXB in action

Children's rights are at the heart of our actions. Each of our programs is a response to the practical implementation - in children's daily lives - of their rights as defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989, in particular Article 28, which stipulates that every child has the right to quality education and learning opportunities.

FXB also contributes to the achievement of Objectives 4 and 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ensuring women's and girls' equal access to education, healthcare, decent work and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will nurture sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity as a whole.

Our current programs

Whether through our VillageFXB programs or our dedicated Education programs, our aims are to promote inclusive education, strengthen personal skills, foster vocational training opportunities and build a culture of non-violence.
