19 Feb 2008 | President Bush and Secretary Rice meet FXB Rwanda
Kigali, Rwanda - FXB staff in Rwanda enjoyed an opportunity to meet President Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and the President’s Chief of Staff Josh Bolten during the President’s recent delegation to Africa. While in Rwanda, President Bush attended a meeting of youth Anti-AIDS clubs in Kigali. Many of the students in the Anti-AIDS clubs are participants in FXB’s Village Model Programs in the area, and FXB staff were invited to attend as recognition of its services in the fight against AIDS. As one of the hallmarks of his presidency, Bush established the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which has committed $18.8 billion to date for AIDS prevention, education, and treatment in 15 countries, most in sub-Saharan Africa.
FXB staff members had the opportunity to speak with Secretary Rice and Mr. Bolten about the importance of health education and the difficulties facing families in resource poor and AIDS affected communities. Both Secretary Rice and Chief of Staff Bolten expressed their appreciation for FXB’s work and requested further information about the Village Model Program.
